Roofing

Many of our competitors offer "options". We include several of these options as part of our standard service beginning with our products. Because we use Certain Teed products, we are able to offer an upgrade on the manufacturers' warranty extending it from 30 years to limited lifetime with a 130 mph wind rating.

We do this by installing every shingle with 6 nails instead of the industry standard of 4. We also use starter shingles along all eaves and rakes. These differences are completed according to the manufacturer's guidelines.

They are what allow us to offer the warranty upgrades. More information on Certain Teed can be found on their website at https://www.certainteed.com/residential-roofing

Some contractors install ice & water shield in the valleys and only 3' at the eaves. At Responsive Roofing, we always install 6' of ice and water shield, 3' in valleys, and 18 in. at sidewalls and penetrations.

Responsive Roofing considers ridge venting to be a standard in the industry. When we prepare a quote for a homeowner, it's all included.

Responsive Roofing

We perform these upgrades as a standard service because we want to provide the highest quality materials and service to our customers. All of this put together helps us to achieve our goal of "No Call Backs".

Hail & Storm Damage

If you have been in the unfortunate situation of having your home damaged by hail, contact us. It is a good idea to make sure you're dealing with a company that is locally owned and operated. Many "Storm Chasers" will set up shop in an area following a major storm and they will be gone just as quickly as they came. We operate in Northern Illinois and will continue to serve this area for many years to come.

We understand that this may be a difficult time for you and the professionals at Responsive Roofing will meet the insurance adjuster's and make sure you get your home looking beautiful again while making the process as convenient and stress-free as possible.

LETTER TO CONSUMERS

5/22/14

Hello,

My name is Ron Hilliard and I own Responsive Roofing, LLC located here in DeKalb. This is the first large hail storm that I've encountered since starting the company two years ago. From the many people I have spoken to since Wednesday morning, I quickly realized that residents in this area should be better informed and understand the insurance claim process. I'm going to attempt to explain a few things and it may not be pretty, but it will be honest!

Why are these "Storm Chasers" all over the place?
Why does everyone want to sign a contract before I even speak to my insurance agent?
How do I know I'm getting a good contractor?
What material/labor quality issues should I be aware of?

First of all, Storm Chasers are salesmen for ANY company that do not usually cater to an area until there is storm damage in that particular area. More times than not, they are people who will not be involved in the process beyond meeting with an insurance adjuster. Often, they will not be back at all after signing the initial contract.

Will the company they represent be here if a problem arises? It happens on occasion to every contractor, it's how they respond and handle the situation that matters! What is their motivation to ensure your continued satisfaction after the job is complete?

Signing a contract prior to meeting with an adjuster is an important part of the process.

Doing it this way provides you with a contractor that will meet with the adjuster to ensure that you are receiving all of the benefits of your policy that you are entitled to. He is there to be on your side if you need it. After all, don't we both have the same goal at that point, regardless of who you choose to work with?

Here's the secret of how to find a good contractor.

  • 1.

Go local. If you were paying retail price for your new roof and siding, would you call a guy from another state unless you knew them previously?

  • 2.

Talk to neighbors, friends, family, and co-workers. See how their experiences were.

  • 3.

If you were paying retail price, would you care about the quality of the products going on your home? How about the quality of the labor? So why not now? Ask questions? If you don't get straightforward answers, move on. There's a ton of us!

  • 4.

Verify a roofing license if that is part of your potential claim. This can be done at the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation website. www.idfpr.com

  • 5.

Verify proper insurance. At the very least they should have General Liability, Workers Comp, and an IL Bond.

  • 6.

Did they provide you a copy of a "Three Day Right to Cancel Home Repair" letter? Yes, you have that right! It was created specifically for this type of situation. Look it up on the Illinois Attorney General website. www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov

  • 7.

Keep in mind that roofing, siding, & window permits are not required in DeKalb, so no one else is looking out for you. Do some research and take your time. There's no rush, you have a year.

Thank you for your time,

Ron Hilliard

Siding

While we have several options available to us, Responsive Roofing typically uses a .044 siding by Mastic.

Our crews are extremely efficient and will have your home looking like new in no time! Whether you require just siding, fascia & soffit, window wraps, or a combination of all three, most jobs are completed the same day.

Gutters

We offer quality seamless gutters that are professionally installed. We set our benchmarks higher than many of our competitors and use .032" gutter coil as a standard.

Windows

We use Midway Windows and Doors for all of our window replacement needs. Innovative low E insulated glass and a lifetime glass breakage warranty are just a couple of the features that are included with every window we install. Midway has been in business since 1964 and is based out of Chicago.

Responsive Roofing

When selecting a window supplier, it is important to consider the location and longevity of the company for several reasons including ease of matching products in the future and ability to provide proper warranty service. We encourage you to view their website at www.midwaywindows.com

Our window installers are the same service technicians that install our siding. Because of this convenience, we can ensure a knowledgeable installation with proper flashing every time.
